I’m the kind of woman who’s always been a bit of an encourager, a people-pleaser, and someone who tends to overthink things. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats: mother, grandmother (or GiGi as I’m known to my grandkids), wife, friend, and yes, sometimes even a little bit of a perfectionist. But through it all, I’ve learned that life has a way of shaping us in unexpected, beautiful ways.
Born and raised in Western New York, I’ve since transplanted myself to Michigan to be closer to my children and grandchildren. In 2022, I took a giant leap and purchased my first home. With the incredible help of my son, Mark, and his talented crew, we transformed a house that was a little too “wild” (thanks to a few snakes) into a home filled with love, laughter, and—let’s be honest—way too many chickens. This home is more than just a roof over my head. It’s the realization of a lifelong dream.
The photo above is one of my favorites—taken by my lifelong friend, Julie, who’s been with me through every chapter of my life. When I look at it, I see a woman who has endured heartache and disappointment, but allowed those experiences to flow through her, refusing to let them settle on her heart.
Nearly ten years ago, I was forced to face one of the toughest moments of my life. What I thought was the worst thing that could happen to me turned out to be the best thing for me. It was a turning point—a season of painful, yet necessary, healing. Seven months into that journey, I learned to embrace my own strengths and learned how to love myself, imperfections and all. For the first time, I felt truly at peace. I realized that home isn’t just a physical place—it’s something that always lives inside you.
While Michigan isn’t where I grew up, it’s where I’ve made a new home. It’s where I’m growing, evolving, and building a life filled with meaning. I’m excited to explore this beautiful state more—it has so much to offer—and I can’t wait to discover it all. But that, my friends, is another story for another day.
So here’s to the journey, the healing, and the red shoes that remind me: no matter where life takes me, I am home—right here, right now.
I believe in you!
